Brooklyn Bridge Wedding Poem

Hail of the sea to majestic land harbours

evocative testament of fortitude and desire

iron, steel, and stone crushed and bruised

escape above to energetic leisure

walkway thru and thru to hard labor

countenance of throne and of fallen grace

gone are hours with hours to come ahead

fill now the great bridge

with humanity’s finest multitudes

the odd and average, the foolish and genius

the elsewhere traveler and common rider

all linked by place and time and interest and affection

a paradox in figure, an ode to the paradox of life

Iconic bridge, be the metaphor

reminding us of life

from its splendor to unsettling strife

Be the firmament upon which we stand

heart to heart and hand to hand

to pledge our lives to love and world more grand
